Canada Dental Care Plan is finally here: New West—Burnaby MP

Peter Julian said seniors aged 65 and older in New Westminster and Burnaby can start signing up for the new plan.

Exciting news.

The Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP) comes into effect on Wednesday, May 1, after the NDP fought for 57 years to include dental care in the Canada Health Care Act.

The first clients eligible for the Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP) can see a dentist or oral health provider.

If you have signed up for CDCP and received a welcome package from Sun Life, you should have been notified of the date you can begin seeing your dentist or oral health provider. If you registered by phone but have not received your welcome package, please contact the CDCP Call Center directly at 1-833-537-4342 to check the status of your application.

Seniors 70 and older who missed out on early phone registration can now register online. In addition, starting from May 1, seniors aged 65 to 69 can register online.

Adults and children under 18 with a valid Disability Tax Credit (DTC) certificate can register online starting June 1.

For CDCP online registration, you can visit the Canadian government’s website.

Covered Services: The Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP) will cover a wide range of oral health services designed to maintain teeth and gum health and prevent and treat oral health problems and diseases. Some services require preauthorization, which is based on an oral health provider's recommendation to confirm plan coverage before treatment is provided. Services requiring pre-authorization will be available starting in November 2024.

Amount Covered: CDCP will reimburse a percentage of the cost based on established CDCP fees and your adjusted net household income.

You may need to pay additional fees directly to your oral health care provider if:

  • Your adjusted net household income is between $70,000 and $89,999 (copay chart available online)
  • The cost of your oral health care services exceeds CDCP’s established fees
  • You and your oral health provider agree to receive services that are not covered by CDCP.

Residents of New Westminster and Burnaby seeking a CDCP dentist or oral health provider visit Sun Life's website.
