Biohacker Bryan Johnson reveals the ultimate secrets to ‘perfect’ oral health

Bryan Johnson says it only takes eight minutes of oral hygiene to go from rotten teeth to a great smile.

“I used to have terrible oral health,” the millionaire biohacker said in a recent YouTube video.

“My dentist now reports 'you have the gums of a healthy teenager,'” the 46-year-old boasted. “By following this routine and sticking to the Blueprint Diet, my mouth is the healthiest it has been in my adult life.”

Brian, who is known for spending $2 million a year on anti-aging treatments, said his teeth “were actually rotten” before he improved his oral hygiene.

“My teeth were really decaying, my gums had lost their attachment, my teeth weren't in the best position, I was getting a lot of sugar in my diet – it was bad.”

According to Bryan, four baseline level measurements are taken to measure oral health before beginning extreme oral treatment.

“You don't know if you're going to the dentist, if they're going to do some major work, or if they're going to have to fix a whole bunch of cavities — that can really cause anxiety,” he noted.

Brian first recommends looking at the tooth's socket depth, which is the distance from the top of the gum to the bottom of the gum socket.

“You want to see how deep it is,” he explains. “If it's 1 to 3 millimeters, it's in good shape, and if it's 4 to 5 millimeters, it needs some work.”

The second is tooth attachment. Health Nuts recommends checking how strong the teeth are in the gums.

The third is the plaque index – the hardened plaque around the teeth – and the fourth is the ease with which the gums bleed.

The California biohacker's eight-minute routine starts with a water pick, which he says can cost anywhere from $40 to $200.

“It's a high-pressure stream of water that shoots out like a hose and you can run it along the gum line all around your teeth,” he explains.

The next step was flossing, and Brian used a brand called Mr Tongues.

“It has a thicker rope,” Brian explained. “In the studies we evaluated, it picked up 25 percent more plaque from smaller strands.”

“I use both a water pick and dental floss because they both work really well to help remove debris from various areas of the gum,” he adds.

Brian actually uses an electric toothbrush to brush his teeth, which he prefers because it cleans his teeth better.

“You might prefer a manual, and that's fine – find the one that works for you,” he urges. “Now, for my electric toothbrush, I prefer soft bristles to hard bristles because I find it cleans just as well without the harsh friction.”

Brian says he uses two toothpastes – one in the morning and one at night – and he doesn't say that for any particular reason, but because he just likes to use two different types of toothpaste.

The next step for his regime is tongue scraping – which he says is “very important”.

“The tongue, like the teeth, gets dirty and needs cleaning – just like the teeth,” he explains.

“You'll notice a huge difference in your oral health,” Brian advises.

Next, Brian uses a xylitol mouthwash, which he does for “two situations.”
